The man has been reported to police, who are investigating whether it is connected to the other 'bike masturbater' who hit headlines in 2007 after having slashed the tyres and ejaculated over some 20 different saddles.
A 35-year-old man was sectioned but is reported to have since been released, reported the Local.

Cyclist in fatal crash was a 65-year-old competitive rider

The man who died Saturday in a bicycle-car accident near Woodinville was Jerry Shafer, 65, a well-known competitive cyclist who held several track records in his age group and hardly ever missed a race or even a workout.
Last year, he organized a fundraising event during which he set a national record (since broken) for the fastest 100 miles on a track for men ages 60-69, and netted $17,398 for a group that fights retinoblastoma, a rare form of eye cancer that afflicted his grandson when the boy was a toddler.
Shafer’s death has not been officially confirmed by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office, but news of his death spread quickly among his friends and Seattle-area cyclists.
Shafer was riding down a hill on 240th Street Southeast at about 10:45 a.m. when, according to authorities, he struck an oncoming vehicle while attempting to pass other cyclists.
Speed and alcohol did not appear to be factors in the crash, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, and deputies did not anticipate that the driver would face charges. Shafer died at the scene.
His teammates and cycling friends remember Shafer as an outgoing, friendly and dedicated cyclist who pushed himself hard and spent a lot of time at the Marymoor Velodrome, the 400-meter track where he held his fundraiser, participated in weekly races and served on the board of the Velodrome Association.

This is BULLSHIT.  Lets give the toll roads to Spain and then ban bikes on them.  Have you ever noticed that the toll roads are huge barriers?  In the city they are great choke points for controlling the movement of the sheeple.

• Riding a bike on the shoulder of a highway is the last place most people would want to be, but there is often no alternative accommodation;
• Some toll roads do not have service roads attached and may be the only access to a location;
• Many Texas toll roads have low traffic volumes and few conflict points, and thus are safer than their alternatives;
• Many Texas toll roads are in rural areas without the traffic volumes associated with urban toll roads.

Such a sweeping policy from TxDOT sets a dangerous precedent for the future and does not allow any latitude in accounting for differences in regions, traffic volumes, and alternative accommodations across Texas.

Bike Lanes: What Everyone Not-So-Secretly Wants

Drivers, pedestrians, and public transit users all said that bike lanes, particularly the ones that are separated from traffic by a barrier or parking, are the one thing they'd like to see most. The SFMTA says that segregated lanes are "comfortable for all user groups," while other kinds of lanes, even those with pylons separating them from traffic, are only comfortable for experienced, enthusiastic, or fearless riders. And these "comfortable" lanes only make up about 10 percent of bike routes in San Francisco.
More comfortable riders and better bike lanes means that drivers can relax because they don't have to share a roadway with hard-to-see and/or unpredictable cyclists. There are also intangibles that go along with adding bikes, such as increased comfort for pedestrians, and added safety due to the "human presence" as Christopher Dolan told CBS Local. Other things also go into making a street friendlier to pedestrians and cyclists; the SafeTREC study also said that features like businesses, cleanliness, lighting, art, beautification, and landscaping all encouraged more frequent visits.
You can see that bike lanes aren't just about appeasing the (relatively small) cycling community, but about giving everyone a more usable roadway. The Better Market Street plan looks great, but moving cycle traffic off Mission could backfire if the plan is to revitalize that transportation corridor. On the other hand, moving cycle traffic to Mission Street, might spur an uptick in bars, cafes, and bike shops, on the parts of that street that aren't already covered with those businesses.

Times Square bicycle bomber video released; FBI offers reward

A bicycle-riding bomber who attacked a Times Square military recruitment station may have been involved in two similar unsolved bombings in New York City, the FBI and police said Tuesday as they released video of the suspect and offered $65,000 for information leading to his capture.
The video runs for 7 minutes and 8 seconds and shows the bomber cycling down 7th Avenue through the heart of Times Square at 3:38 a.m. March 8, 2008. When he reaches the Armed Forces Recruiting Station at 43rd Street, he places the bomb near its entrance, lights a fuse, and pedals away.
Despite the hour, several people and cars pass by the station, which is at one of the city's busiest intersections. The bomb explodes about 3:40 a.m., sending a massive white cloud into the sky. Within one minute, a police car swerves into view and stops at the scene.
Nobody was wounded in the bombing, which broke windows and damaged walls. But officials said the blast -- built using ammunition commonly found on the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan -- could have caused "significant casualties" if people had been nearby when it exploded.

Police said Ojeda admitted to stealing the expensive bicycle as well as smoking methamphetamine. He was subsequently arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of grand theft and being under the influence of a controlled substance.

British inventors build flying bicycle

Do you remember that scene in "E.T." where the kids fly away on their BMXs? After seeing it, did you too want to pedal your bike down the street, over your house and past the moon?

Well, now that fantasy can be reality with the invention of the Paravelo flying bicycle.

A pair of flight enthusiasts, John Foden, 37, and Yannick Read, 42, have devised a two-wheeled bike -- christened the XploreAir Paravelo -- that transforms into an aircraft. The British inventors say it is the world's first fully functional flying bicycle.

The machine can travel at speeds of up to 15 miles per hour on the road and 25 miles per hour in the air, reaching altitudes of up to 4,000 feet.

"The Wright brothers were former bicycle mechanics so there's a real connection between cycling and the birth of powered flight that is recaptured in the spirit of the Paravelo," says so-creator John Foden.

By starting slowly and gradually building up the amount of time you spend on the bike you will be surprised at how much longer you can keep cycling and how much stronger your aerobic or endurance fitness will become – even when your legs begin to tire.

Endurance is the key training ability that you should work on before anything else. While cycling speed and strength are important to differing degrees, nothing is as important as endurance. Without it you won’t get very far!

• Biking speed: Going faster is particularly important if you really want to get into road racing or criterium (crit’s) events, but it is not of paramount importance if your priority is getting fit and losing weight. As we get faster on the bike, technique plays an increasingly vital role. It’s all about increasing the ‘cadence’ and “torque” on the pedals or speed and power in which you can turnover each pedal stroke. Ask one of the experts at your local cycling shop to show you how this is done.


• Strength: Strength refers to your ability to push your pedals purposefully, stroke after stroke without tiring. BUILD BIKE LANES!!!!  $2,400,000 for bikes and kiosks is stupid and not responsible with our tax money (but this is Austin).  Build something that will last more then one or two years.  I know I'm in the minority within the bike community but the bike share is dumb.  Low income riders will not pay for a rental and medium to high income riders will ride their trusty steed.  The bike share is for tourist.  FOR ONCE SPEND OUR MONEY WISELY!!

Austin’s nascent bike-sharing program, which city officials had said a few months ago could be up and running by May, has been slowed by contracting delays and now probably won’t debut until late this year.
Negotiating a contract with nonprofit Bike Share of Austin to operate the program, after the Austin City Council in January approved the sole bidder, took longer than expected, said Shannon Wisner, a spokeswoman with Austin’s Public Works Department.
That contract wasn’t completed until May 20, city officials said.
A second procurement effort, to buy the approximately 400 heavy-duty bicycles (at about $1,000 each) and about 40 docking stations and kiosks (expected to cost as much as $50,000 apiece), isn’t complete. City Council Member Chris Riley said it is scheduled to come before the council for approval June 20, but the city staff will then have to work out a contract with the winning bidder.
That procurement couldn’t be completed until the Bike Share contract was finalized because the nonprofit will be providing some of the money used to purchase the equipment, Wisner said.

Green Bike Lane Paint Fight Pits Producers Against Cyclists | NBC Southern California

The Los Angeles City Council delayed a vote on Friday to repaint bike lanes on Spring Street a darker, less reflective shade of green to avoid disrupting film shoots.

The council will now take up the issue at its June 14 meeting.

The decision was expected to help settle a battle over the color of a bike lane in downtown LA.

Bike lanes on Spring Street from Caesar Chavez Avenue to Ninth Street in downtown were painted green in 2011 as a way to clearly mark where bicyclists ride on the congested downtown street.

But TV and movie industry representatives are fighting to change it, saying the neon green color relfects on buildings, props and actors’ faces and is tough to remove from scenes that depict urban settings like those found in Chicago, Philadelphia and New York.

It’s one thing to drive somewhere nice and ride your bike for the day, and quite something else to park your car and leave it behind for several days as you tour the countryside by bike. Even if gas prices weren’t steadily rising, there are plenty of other good reasons to make a bicycle the transportation centerpiece of your vacation travels this summer. As I write this, my sweetheart Marilyn and I have just started a four-night, five-day getaway on our tandem bike, and I can already think of five good reasons why it’s better than traveling by car.

First, traveling entirely by bike makes a getaway to even the most familiar destination a new and fresh adventure. Marilyn and I go to Cape Cod almost every year to bike, kayak, explore different places to stay and eat, and search out different things to do. Much of the time, we have our kayaks with us, as well as our bike, but this year we decided to do Falmouth and Martha’s Vineyard by bike. This is a familiar destination for us, but traveling by bike forces you to take back roads and really see the sights you are passing.

The day of this writing, for example, we pedaled our tandem touring bike from Onset (where we parked our car at a relative’s house) to the edge of the Cape Cod Canal, across the Bourne Bridge (okay, we walked the bike across the bridge). From there we took Shore Road most of the way down to North Falmouth, where we picked up the Shining Sea Bikeway. Along the way, we saw hundreds of beautiful houses and gardens, had our choice of restaurants we’d never seen before and never would have found if we had driven our car down busy Route 28. I guarantee you that if you bike to a familiar destination you’ll find lots of new and interesting stuff on the way.

The solar-powered docking stations and the nearly 6,000 stocky blue Citi Bikes are located in Manhattan below 59th Street and selected neighborhoods of Brooklyn. Vast swaths of the city—including Queens, the Bronx, Staten Island, most of Brooklyn and much of Manhattan—are left bikeless.
"It's obvious that it's well needed," said Samuel Thiam, owner of the Maison Harlem restaurant in Harlem, where the nearest docking station is miles away. "I ride bikes myself, and I think it should be all over the city."

With the past decade's rapid growth in bicycle commuting, several U.S. cities have been in a race to build dedicated bike lanes.
Portland has more than 181 miles of bike lanes. Chicago and Minneapolis have promised to surpass the Pacific Northwest's pedaling mecca.  
But dedicated bike lanes are not necessarily the most important factors in reducing the severity of injuries in crashes between bikes and cars, according to a new University at Buffalo study.
Instead, the findings, presented May 16 at the annual meeting of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, show light and speed are much bigger factors.

Dietrich Jehle, professor of emergency medicine, and Kelsey Helak, a student in the university's School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, examined whether cyclists injured in collisions with cars while traveling in bike lanes had less severe injuries than those sharing the same traffic lane.

Citi Bike is stolen before program even begins

The bike-share program rode into trouble last night before it was even launched — when someone stole one of the bikes as it was being delivered to a Manhattan rack, police said.
The pedal pilferer snatched the blue Citi Bike at around 6 p.m. in Kips Bay, and was able to ride off before workers noticed.
The crew had been busy placing a load of the $825 rental bicycles into a rack at Second Avenue and 25th Street, and had not yet locked them in place when the thief struck.
Workers realized a bike was swiped only when a passer-by shouted out.
After first trying to run after the crook — who was still at large last night — they flagged down cops.

“A cop car was passing by and the workers said, ‘Stop, stop, we’ve just been robbed,’” said Bolivar Arellano, a Post freelance photographer who witnessed the aftermath of the bike heist.

A TEAM of police officers are preparing to cycle the coast-to-coast route to raise funds for a blood cancer charity.
Ten officers from the Consett neighbourhood policing team, along with three colleagues from other departments in the police station, will undertake the 140 mile journey from Whitehaven to Tynemouth.
PCSO Michael Craine, who is unable to cycle for medical reasons and will be part of a support team, said: “The Consett YMCA have kindly given us the loan of their mini-bus, so we decided to support.

Provo police say a suspicious device that a man thought was a pipe bomb turned out to be part of a bicycle light.
Authorities say a man had been mowing his lawn Sunday afternoon when he found a cylinder with wires sticking out of it.
Provo Police Lt. Matt Siufanua says the man picked it up and put it in the roadway before calling police about 1:30 p.m.
Officials say that when the bomb squad responded with their robot, they determined it was the empty battery pack for a bike light.
