Doping Birds! Belgian Racing Pigeons Fly High on Coke and Painkillers
Slippery slope.... Let me guess, "Everybody was doing it" but I blame the trainers.
Nothing is sacred it appears in the high-flying world of pigeon racing in Belgium, where six birds were found to have been doped with drugs such as cocaine and painkillers, Belgian media reported Thursday.
Cycling-mad Belgium is used to hearing of sports stars pumped up on performance-enhancing drugs, but officials are now homing-in on the birds used in a sport which rakes in millions in breeding and prize monies.
The Belgian pigeon-racing federation sent samples from 20 birds to the National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa after a recent exchange visit, two Flemish dailies reported.
Although tests on the same birds in Belgium had not revealed a problem, the South African lab did.

Cycling community honors cyclist killed on his bike
On Wednesday night, for a second time in two weeks, the cycling community came to honor a cyclist killed on his bike, in a Ride of Silence.
Dozens of cyclist made the half-mile ride from Overland Road to Kelly's ghost bike.
It's chained up on Federal Way, close to where he was hit.
Organizers say they learned about his death, while taking part in a Twilight ride for another cyclist last week.

The remarkable story of the rise and fall of cyclist Lance Armstrong will be translated in a new feature-length biopic directed by Stephen Frears. The glory of Armstrong's triumph over testicular cancer and subsequent Tour de France wins in the 90s has been overshadowed by the shame that accompanied him being stripped of all seven of his consecutive titles last year due to doping evidence.
The movie will chart Armstrong's rise and fall as a sportsman as well as the vociferous work of journalist David Walsh to expose doping within the sport.

Growing up, Evelyn Martinez's mother didn't want her to ride a bike.
"She thinks it's not safe for women to be riding late at night, and cars are dangerous too," Martinez said.
Moreover, her mother told her: "Bicycles are for men."
But after a chance meeting last year, Martinez joined an all-female, predominantly Latino cycling group that is both an answer and a challenge to the aggressive male biking culture. Like men's bike crews, it defies L.A.'s monolithic car culture with an in-your-face ethic, reflected in its name: the Ovarian Psyco Cycles Brigade.

You’ve heard it ad nauseam: Share the Road - a mantra adopted much by cyclists and not at all by motorists. It’s become a passive petition: vulnerable bicyclists begging for enough street space to not be run over and killed from drivers largely indifferent due the empathy-crushing confines of the metal machines they drive. Even worse, groups like Please Be Kind to Cyclists have taken this kind of Stockholm Syndrome to absurd extremes, using language that would embolden any bully, ceding them power over their pleading victim.

Graphic footage of Boris bike cyclist's death seen by family | World news | The Guardian
The family of a French student killed by a lorry while she was riding a "Boris bike" broke down as graphic CCTV footage of the collision was shown to her inquest.
The parents, brother and sisters of Philippine De Gerin-Ricard, 20, watched through their fingers as the footage, taken from different cameras, showed the incident outside Aldgate East underground station that occurred as she rode home to Bromley-by-Bow, east London, on 5 July.
