Bike Song - Red Monkey

Fearless

You say the hill's too steep to climb,
Climb it!
You say you'd like to see me try,
Climb it!
You pick the place and I'll choose the time
And I'll climb
The hill in my own way
Just wait a while, for the right day
And as I rise above the treeline and the clouds
I look down hear the sound of the things you said today

Upgrayedd your Bike! Lawsuit seeks $ for crash along Springwater Trail

Brought to you by Carl's Jr.
This is what is wrong with our country.  It's not the Republicans, Democrats or Libertarians.  It's just the idiots.  It's the "I-d-10-t Syndrome".  We are living Idiocracy and I feel like Frito.

Not Sure

A Portland cyclist is suing Oregon Pacific Railroad Co. for up to $10,000, saying she crashed after her bike tire got caught in a railroad crossing gap along the popular Springwater Trail in Southeast Portland last July.
Marcy Jacobs says in the suit that she was riding her bike south on the trail and turned left at the intersection with Southeast Spokane Street to head east on the sidewalk.
As she was crossing the tracks, "her bicycle wheel became caught in a 2-inch-wide by 29-inch-long gap in the railroad crossing," says the suit, filed last week in Multnomah County Circuit Court.

Twins bike and longboard through Missouri | fox4kc.com

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Twin brothers from Rock Port, Mo., are on a trek across Missouri that is proving to be so much more demanding, but also more rewarding than they imagined.
Tracy and Travis Morgan are 21-years old. They grew up in Branson and are headed back there now from Rock Port, Mo., north of St. Joseph.
Tracy travels by bike, Travis by longboard. They sleep in tents or in a hotel if the weather is especially bad. People in different communities have also given them a place to stay.
Tracy came up with the idea, or a version of it, when he was in the military. He wanted to run across the United States. When he came back and told his brother about his idea, Travis was ‘on board’, but Travis’ mentor encouraged him to start off with a trip through Missouri instead of the entire country.
They switched from running to biking and longboarding down the state.

Springs Replace Spokes in New Shock-Absorbing Bike Wheel | Autopia | Wired.com

The bicycle wheel hasn’t evolved much in the past few hundred years. But a new design cushions bumps with an in-board suspension that promises to save weight, space, and even your behind.
The Loopwheel, a project from UK designer Sam Pearce, surrounds a traditional wheel hub with three folded leaf springs instead of spokes. The setup keeps the rim rigid, but allows the hub to travel more than 1.75 inches to absorb shocks such as hitting uneven pavement or a riding over a curb. The result is a ride that’s less jarring, and that transmits fewer vibrations to the rider’s body.
Pearce got the idea for the Loopwheel while waiting for a flight and watching parents pushing children in strollers over a gap in the flooring. Every time a stroller hit that patch of floor, the child would be jostled forward. A cycling enthusiast, Pearce knew that cyclists had a similar problem to those kids in the airport, so he started drawing up ideas for in-wheel shock absorbers.
After the first wheels came a Kickstarter. With more than a week left to the Loopwheel campaign, Pearce has already raised more than $7,500 over the goal, money that will be used to fund expanded production, including a new system for manufacturing the “loops” more efficiently.
Prototype in-wheel suspensions are nearly as old as the bicycle itself, but the designs always failed because they were too heavy or too flimsy. Pearce’s design is only possible because of the strong, lightweight, carbon composite materials used for the “loop” springs. It also requires disc braking and a wide fork, which is why the initial Loopwheel is designed to fit a particular frame — the Dahon folding bike shown above

Bike to School Day has one problem: Kids under 10 can't ride alone to Madison schools.

It’s Bike to School Day Wednesday and several Madison schools are participating in the national effort.
But there’s one rub.
The Madison Metropolitan School District has a longstanding policy prohibiting children under age 10 from riding their bicycles to school without written permission from parents. Kids can walk alone but they can’t bike alone unless there is letter on file at their school.

“Nobody really knows how long they’ve had the policy but I’m trying to get it changed,” says Sonia Dubielzig, Safe Routes to School Coordinator for the Madison School District.
Despite the policy, Shorewood Elementary School is expecting more than half of the 450 students in grades 4K-5 will ride their bikes on Wednesday. To avoid any conflicts with the district rules, an officer from the Madison Police Department will ride with kids from the Eagle Heights area.

Bloomberg Refused Second Slice of Pizza at Local Restaurant - The Daily Currant

Mayor Bloomberg, not accustomed to being challenged, assumed that the owner was joking.
"OK, that's funny," he remarked, "because of the soda thing ... No come on. I'm not kidding. I haven't eaten all morning, just send over another pepperoni."
"I'm sorry sir. We're serious," Benito insisted. "We've decided that eating more than one piece isn't healthy for you, and so we're forbidding you from doing it."
I won't do what you tell me!!
"Look jackass," Bloomberg retorted, his anger boiling, "I fucking skipped breakfast this morning just so I could eat four slices of your pizza. Don't be a schmuck, just get back to the kitchen and bring out some fucking pizza, okay."
"I'm sorry sir, there's nothing I can do," the owner repeated. "Maybe you could go to several restaurants and get one slice at each. At least that way you're walking. You know, burning calories."

Cyclists endanger motorists - San Antonio Express-News

It is obvious that Bill Krawietz is not a sheeple but he is misguided.  His hair is a sign of his individuality.  I personally draw the line when it comes to Official Oppression.
"The last thing we want to do is to start ramping up citations for the littlest infractions to get you to notice."

"Traffic was quite heavy at the time. School had just let out, there was a scramble to get income tax checks mailed and the evening rush was beginning. My patience was already worn thin and being stuck behind a couple of slow-moving cyclists riding side-by-side did not help."

Bill Krawietz is mayor of Bulverde, Texas.

"When and where these cyclists pick to ride is the real problem. They should stay to the less traveled roads at off-peak hours. They are only endangering themselves, the motorists behind them and those coming from the opposite direction.

For those at the post office that afternoon and heard me unleash on this pair, I apologize.
To the cyclists, just because you have the right to come and use our roads does not mean you are exempt from common sense. Pick your route wisely."

Justice Breyer released from hospital after bicycle fall | Reuters

Breyer is no stranger to bicycle accidents, having been injured twice before.
In 2011, he broke his collarbone, while in 1993, before he was appointed to the court, he broke his ribs and suffered a punctured lung.
Breyer, who was appointed by President Bill Clinton in 1994, is viewed as a moderate on the liberal wing of the nine-member court.

Feds seize website domains, allege sales of phony bike gear | Bicycle Retailer and Industry News

HOUSTON, TX (BRAIN) — Federal officials have seized 10 web domains that were allegedly selling counterfeit products including Specialized bikes, clothing and shoes. Officials said other bike vendors including SRAM, Cervelo and Pinarello assisted in their investigation. Officials also are trying to seize more than $90,000 from PayPal accounts associated with the sites, which they did not identify.
Some alleged counterfeit Specialized clothing purchased from the sites.
"Visitors typing those domain names into their web browsers will now find a banner that notifies them of the seizure and educates them about the federal crime of willful copyright infringement," the Houston-based Homeland Security Investigations said in a statement released Friday.

An 8-year-old Blaine County boy was flown by emergency helicopter to a Boise hospital after being struck by a car while riding his bicycle last week at a trailer court south of Ketchum.
Blaine County Sheriff Gene Ramsey identified the boy as Brian Hernandez. He said the boy was taken to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center following the accident on Friday, April 26, and “was released later that evening.”
“They were concerned about internal injuries,” Ramsey said.

"Head up the Rectum" Syndrome strikes again...

Another ghastly crash upended a peaceful Malibu, Calif., bike ride — near a small stretch of Mulholland Highway that some call "Dead Man's Turn." Cameraman Ken Snyder has been shooting video of wipeouts on the hazardous turn for four years but Saturday's collision was the only time he ever saw a motorcycle take out two bikes. The video shows a motorcyclist lean in close to the double yellow lines. As he comes out of a sharp turn, he stands his bike up but loses control and goes wide, crashing directly into a bicyclist near the roadside.

Lessons from bicycle riders - The Washington Post

I was delighted with the April 28 front-page article “Uneasy riders: Adults trying to get steady on 2 wheels,” about adults learning to ride bikes. Not all new riders are aware of their own limitations. Some suggestions for these brave new bicyclists:
●If you have more than one accident, perhaps you should get a large tricycle instead. (Are you listening, Justice Stephen G. Breyer?)
●Try gaining experience on trails or paths that you are familiar with; new trails may present unknown difficulties and require extra caution.
●Be aware that excessive force on the front-wheel brake can send you tumbling, especially when going downhill. This is more likely to happen to an inexperienced adult rider. Adults pitched forward over the handlebars tend to break things.
Jere Rutt, Gaithersburg

Where in the Constitution is it written that you can’t be an American unless you ride a bipedal torture machine, also known as a bicycle? All my life I have been bullied and harassed because I don’t have the slightest desire to mount one of these obviously dangerous contraptions. But I finally figured out that, as the saying goes, just because all my friends were foolishly jumping on bikes, it didn’t mean that I had to. If other people want to risk themselves on these two-wheeled iron maidens, may heaven bless them and keep them — far away from me.

Update: Mountain-bike Trail Sabotaging Psychiatrist

Update to a post in October of 2012.

I would like to take my Breezer and run him downhill!
Previous Post

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) — A psychiatrist pleaded guilty Wednesday and was sentenced to 30 days in jail for planting booby traps that injured Oregon mountain bikers riding down national forest trails outside Ashland.
Bike Saboteur Dr. Jackson Dempsey
After pleading guilty to assault and reckless endangering, Dr. Jackson Dempsey apologized to the mountain bikers, his family and the mental health community in Jackson County Circuit Court in Medford. But he did not explain what led him to string nylon cords across the trails, and put nails and small trees in the path.
Besides the 30 days in jail, Judge Lorenzo Mejia ordered Dempsey to stay away from national forest trails for the two years he is on probation.
"That was an important piece" of the plea agreement, said Deputy District Attorney Alisa Ray. "It was a good resolution that met the needs of the cycling community."
Dempsey has until May 20 to report to jail.
Mountain Bike Saboteur!
Ray said reports from the investigation indicated Dempsey walked his dog on the trails and did not like the mountain bikers who regularly rode by on downhill runs.
Local mountain bikers were regularly clearing the obstacles, but they would go back up again, Ray said. Three people suffered minor injuries. Among them was an Ashland mountain biking tour leader, who ran into one of the small trees dragged across a trail.
Dempsey was arrested last July after being spotted near some booby traps. He was a psychiatrist for Jackson County when he was arrested, but no longer has that job.
