Russell Crowe revels in showing off his bushy beard as he goes on New York bike ride

Hmm.  Almost scary!  Russell Crowe is starting to look like me (old, fat, hairy and fred-ish).

He famously won an Oscar for his portrayal of Maximus Decimus Meridius in historical epic Gladiator.
But Russell Crowe was spotted on the streets of New York on Thursday with a bushy beard that makes his most famous character's growth look like mere designer stubble in comparison.
And it seems the nature of his fabulous facial fuzz has not been lost on the 48-year-old, as he has taken to boasting about it on Twitter.
ZZ Top man: Russell Crowe would be the ideal man to star in a biopic about the group if the beard he wore in New York in Thursday is anything to go by

The jolly Australian said: 'Currently the status of my beard is "Epic."'
And it was quite an apt description, as he is growing it for what will surely be a grandiose telling of the biblical tale of Noah and his famous ark, on which he stowed his family and two of every animal before a massive flood.
Fitness fanatic Russell certainly attracted more than a few admiring glances from jealous bystanders as he left his flash hotel in the Big Apple.
The look is a million miles away from the clean shaven look he displayed at the Australian Academy Of Cinema And Television Arts' 1st Annual Awards in January.
Maximus growth: The Gladiator star is almost unrecognisable from his clean shaven self back in January
